Parental Pressure

In Today's world,One of the biggest reason behind child stress and depression is Parental Pressure. So I am writing this Blog to tell you all something about Parental pressure

INTRODUCTION TO THE PROBLEM

One of the biggest hazards of the modernization is that people are running for materialistic world. The glitter of this materialistic world is so big that people are chasing it blindly without knowing what they are gaining and losing. People are working day and night not only to run their families but for the things which were once beyond their reach.. Some are running for cars, big houses, accumulating huge wealth.Values are dying slowly not only they are affecting the health but on the same time they find themselves desperated at the end if the day.

In olden times, there was a concept of joint families where the grandparents used to look after the children when parents went out for work and the entire used to spend time together which helped in the proper upbringing of the children.

Today, the concept has concept of nuclear family is prevalent. The parents are so busy that do not have time for there children and to look what are they doing in their absence.

The parents want their children to be well placed in life and knowingly or unknowingly they are burdening their children with their expectations. This is what is called “parental pressure”.

If we look at the present scenario, the pressure can be classified as

1.External pressure.

2.Internal pressure.

External pressure includes the pressure to establish one’s entity in the society and come up to the top.

Internal pressure includes peer’s pressure and parental pressure.

Our topic is “ Parental Pressure on youngsters “. This pressure includes academic pressure i.e. the pressure of establishment in the society and the pressure to follow the values and ethics.

CAUSES OF THE PROBLEM.

The following are the causes of the parental pressure on we youngsters:

1. Parents expectation:

This is the root cause of parental pressure experienced by the youngsters. It is very often seen that some parents want their child to become what they did not become The parents have framed up the future of their children in their mind and they behave accordingly.

2. Peer Pressure:

Peer pressure also contribute to parents pressure because parents say very often that your friend or classmate is getting 90 % or topping the class and they force their own child to study and get to the top.

3. Lack of proper communication and understanding between the parents and youngsters.

4. For the youngsters it is a confusing state .Their minds are delicate and cannot decide what’s good for them. There is a continuous fear of being blown away with the society because of media and other sources.

If the parents interfere in the child’s matter, the child feels awkward and continuous advices and questioning irritates them .These interferences make the youngsters feel a pressure from the parents side.

5. One of the most important cause is that there is continuous tussle between the values and the present trends related to college life and youth.

The youngsters are struck between the values inculcated in them by their parents and the trends. There is a confusion whether to go with the values or with the trends.

Generally it is seen that the youngsters go with the modern trends which forces them to go off track and crushing the values taught to them. The violation of rules and values forces the parents to put pressure knowingly on unknowingly on the young minds.

PLAN OF ACTION

The burden of unlimited expectation on grooming is found to be one of the basic reason of what we see in today’s world-the distraction , frustration, load of making an excellent career by a child is leading towards what the present scenario demonstrates. The incidences are a real eye-opener. It is high time when one must understand the situation in totality and put actions in behaviour.

The survey conducted reveals very intriguing fact. In some cases, the youngster ‘s issues are neither discussed nor shared by parents keeping them lonely. Apart from this, one more fact came on the surface that every parent wants his/her child to excel in the academics and establish an identity in the society for which they are knowingly or unknowingly imposing their feelings and desires on their children.

Based on the survey, we suggest that youngsters and their parents should discuss and share their problems, activities, academics so that proper guidance can be given.

On the other hand, the parents must understand the limitations, likes and dislikes and ambitions so that a natural guidance can be provided for excellence.

Besides, irrespective of busy schedules, there is a definite need for parents to spend as much time as possible with their children to understand them and shape up their careers.

Why is there a hindrance in solving this problem?

This problem is not coming to an end these days because there are two main hindrances which are responsible for its prevalence.

1. Newspapers and media:

Every day we often hear of suicides, fights over certain issues related to girls and boys in college and the cut off list of universities i.e. the neck to neck competition for establishment of career. This makes the parents advice their young ones continuously.

2. Parent’s Experiences:

Parents are far more experienced than us and know the consequences of many issues related to such relationships. They want us to learn from their experiences.

The problem is that youngsters are not ready to listen to their parents mostly and parents continuously warn or advice them…

SOLUTIONS

The solutions to this problem are as follows:

  • The first and the most important solution to this problem is that the parents should spend time with their children.
  • The young minds must be told the realities of life instead of just scolding or advising them on such issues.
  • The parents should take their children into confidence and tell them their responsibilities.
  • Listen to their children-- their feelings, problems and discuss their activities.
  • Parents should identify their strengths and weaknesses and discuss it with them so these can be brushed up or overcomed.
  • Values should be inculcated in them so that they do not go off the track.
  • The youngsters should discuss their problems with parents so that they can be solved.
